Industry Experience

Automotive and Aftermarket Distribution

Diverse supply chains and incredible real-time logistics challenges characterise this industry. OEMs operate vast industrial property and specialized distribution of motor vehicle inventory to dealerships. In contrast, the support network and aftermarket segment is framed by time-sensitive and expensive-to-run supply chains.

We have formed long standing partnerships with several key industry players across ANZ who we helped on the journey to delivering a world class and cost competitive supply chains.

The industry supply chain problems we have solved across this sector include:

  • Customer service segmentation
  • Smarter ranging and inventory management to improve product availability
  • Logistics network design initiated by distribution centre consolidation
  • Operation excellence in distribution centres including the embracing of automation to deal with the high number of items handled
  • Transportation operating models to cope with a changing customer delivery frequencies
  • Branch logistics process redesign to improve product availability
  • Warehouse systems requirements
  • Optimising an industrial property portfolio

We are currently partnering with a leading aftermarket provider in ANZ who has been through a period of acquisitions to deliver transformational change across their distribution to stores and branches across the region.

The high SKU count, disparate distribution centre network and high service level segments required a new network configuration which we delivered using our Sirius network modelling application. This was followed by the design and implementation of a new generation of distribution centres that will deploy some of the smartest pick automation ever seen in the industry sector.

We have also been recently engaged by a leading Japanese OEM to undertake a strategic review of its national parts distribution business. The strategy considered the amalgamation of 3 sites into 1 large Distribution Centre and contemplated the beneficial labour savings, improved productivity and reduced transport costs the consolidation would afford. The project proved self-funding via value release from within its real estate portfolio.
